The Institute for Informatics and Automation Problems (IIAP) is the scientific-research institute of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia (NAS RA) in the sphere of applied mathematics and informatics, as well as application of computing technologies in various fields of science and technology. The theoretical researches include mathematical logic, theory of algorithms, theory of automata, algebraic coding theory, artificial intellect and cognitive models, discrete mathematics, graph theory, images processing, information theory and statistics, and numerical methods. IIAP takes the leading position in the region in the field of ICT.

IIAP co-operates actively with scientists from different countries within the framework of scientific projects supported by EU FP, UNDP, CRDF, ISTC, NATO, EU IST and others. Many thematic projects are implemented in IIAP under supervision of leading researchers.

In 1994 the first Armenian segment for Academic Scientific Research Computer Network of Armenia (ASNET-AM) was designed and implemented by IIAP staff. Currently ASNET-AM consists of communication nodes in 4 cities of Armenia, which are interconnected by fiber optics and wireless links. Scientists, scientific and technical associates, postgraduates, students and other users from more than 50 scientific, researches, educational, cultural and other organizations currently constitute the ASNET-AM network, created and maintained by IIAP staff (www.asnet.am).

The leading staffs of IIAP teach in the higher education institutions and universities. Since 2004 the Magistracy is established affiliated to the International Scientific Educational Center of NAS RA on specialization “Computer Science”, where IIAP professionals conduct teaching. Periodical proceedings “Mathematical Problems of Computer Science” and preprints are issued in IIAP. Starting from 1997 IIAP has organized biennial International Conference “Computer Sciences and Information Technologies”, which contributes to the development of contemporary branches of informatics in Armenia (http://www.csit.am).
